    1. This is a fascinating read and reference book.Horses evolved in the Americas but crossed the landbridge to Asia, after which they died out in America. Then they returned with the Conquistadors, and Denhardt even gives us extracts from the bills of lading of the first ships to bring horses over the ocean, describing the sexes and colours of the first mounts. The author covers the spread of the horse equally between North and South America.
